Description

MUSIC AND WINE is Manila's premier Saturday social event held weekly at the city's top bar Martinis, at the Mandarin Oriental hotel. Hosted by DJ Elian Habayeb and wine expert Ines Cabarrus, the party is known for its loungy deep house music and the beautiful wines it features, as well as its quirky signature cocktails that attract the city's trendsetters every weekend.

In 2010, the critically acclaimed internet radio show [MUSIC & WINE Radio] evolved into a weekly 3-hour program on Manila's Smooth Jazz Authority 106.7 Dream FM, broadcasting nationally on various frequencies including Davao, Laoag, Boracay (97.3), and General Santos (93.5).

Just like the podcast, you get a good mix of soul, jazz, funk, and deep house music, mixed by Elian and hosted by Ines. The show features weekly guest music mixes by some of the best DJs in the business from around the world, including Jojo Flores (Montreal), Jazzy Jeff (Philadelphia), Jazzanova (Berlin), Julius the Mad Thinker (Chicago), Brent Crampton (Omaha), Mr. Nugget (UK), Marshall Boardman (Tokyo), DJ Spinna, Tommy Bones, Ed Dunn, Nickodemus, Master Kev, E-Man & Doc Link (NYC), and many many more. The show also features some of the best talent Manila has to offer.

Tune in every Saturday night from 9pm to midnight to get your weekly dose of modern lounge music.

And we're back!!  It seems everyone left town for the month of August to celebrate "summer break", and we're all back!  I'm joined once again this Wednesday September 3 at Green Bar on the decks by my musical partner Markus Jentes, and by my life partner Inés, as she co-hosts the evening with Mr. Marcus and Green Bar owners Jade and Sarada Santos.  To help us warm-up for the long awaited night is our episode of the month, my opening set last June 18 recorded live at Green Bar.  Let's give it a listen, why don't we :)
Last month's M&W set at Green Bar will be uploaded in a future episode, in order to make way for this month's special "Cali-Jentes West Coast Smooth Jazz" opening set by none other than Markus Jentes, whose birthday we'll be celebrating this upcoming Wednesday July 16.BACKGROUND -For those who aren't aware, Markus (a.k.a. Mark Cali-Jentes) and I, Elian, go way way back.  We first played together a Bellissima in the Fort Strip where we were introduced by common friend Wendell Garcia in 2003.  Mark not only played at but also did the graphic design for the unforgettable Paseo Uno LOUNGE pool party series I organized with the Mandarin Oriental in 2004.  Mark and I then teamed up with Martin Wisniewski to help turn M Café into Makati's top nightspot in 2005 with the MyHOUSE weekly parties.  20 years later, Mark and I are back behind the decks once a month at Green Bar with the Music & Wine parties.  As for Inés, she's known Mark as long as I have, maybe even longer, and we're all still the closest of friends today.Aside from being a great DJ, Mark is today one of the Philippines' most engaging artists.  You can find his exquisite paintings exhibited in galleries around Manila or on his website at www.markusjentes.art  Having studied the visual arts at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles in the 90s,  he fell in love with California's brand of smooth jazz, listening to the likes of Bob James, David Benoit, Lee Ritenour, and David Sanborn, to name a few.  This is the vibe that Mark recreates in his set for this week's podcast. DJ SETS -Mark and I happen to be performing together this Friday July 11 at the closing party of Chotto Matte in BGC starting at 6pm sharp.  So come join us for Happy Hour if you're in the area! We're also celebrating Mark's birthday this upcoming Wednesday July 16 at M&W Green Bar in Legaspi Village, Makati, starting at 5pm.  You DON'T wanna miss that.  And now, 2 hours of California smooth jazz (Mark's opening set) followed by 2 hours of deep house music (my closing set) recorded at Green Bar in April.  Enjoy!Elian & Inés
It's a good thing we pushed the "record" button! It's another monthly installment of Music & Wine at Green Bar, and the entire extended family appears to have shown up to celebrate my birthday.  What a night!  I'm joined once again by none other than DJ Mark Cali-jentes on the decks.  Inés,  Mackey Maguigad, Jade and Sarada Santos are working the room, and they've all collaborated to have trumpet player Ramon Mancio and a wonderful percussionist join us on stage.   I think I've come to the realization that there's nothing quite as fulfilling and heartwarming as playing to a room full of happy friends.  Huge thank you to everyone who came out and made the night so special!  Love you all <3Coming up next on June 18, I'm joined by a very special musical guest, all the way from Toronto, Canada, our very dear friend DJ OB ONE.  Don't sleep on this one!I'm telling you, the new tagline for these Music & Wine parties has gotta be, "Walk in knowing no one.  Walk out knowing everyone."And now here's 3 hours of non-stop music, my opening set.  Enjoy responsibly ;)
This set was recorded during Holy Week, a holiday in the Philippines when absolutely everything closes.  So we invited our friends and their kids to an Easter Egg Hunt, and installed the sound system for the adults.  Aside from the music, I made a killer Boeuf Bourguignon served with Basmati Rice, and Inés made a vegan pasta with sun-dried tomatoes.Needless to say, the afternoon was absolute bliss.  And we are proud and fortunate to be able to share some of it here with you, our dear listeners. Sending you all nothing but the most positive vibes!Elian & InésPS - Mark your calendars!! Music & Wine at Green Bar upcoming party on Wednesday May 21 5pm onwards, and we'll be celebrating my birthday! So you know it's gonna be special one <3
Well, it looks like our little underground party in a little corner of Legaspi Village is making waves and building a community.  Once again, it was me on the decks at Green Bar all night long from 5pm till around midnight, playing anything and everything, as long as it sounded good!  As Mr Quincy Jones (rest in power) once said "there's only two kinds of music:  good music and bad music."  We played only the good kind!Mackey Maguidad (a.k.a. Mr Marcus) surprised me in mid-set by inviting jazz trumpet player Ramon Mancio to join me for several exhilarating hours.  My lovely wife Inés and our friends Jade and Sarada worked the room of their restaurant, as they usually do so well. And yes, the entire vibe was completely captured on tape!  Here it is.  Enjoy!Elianwww.musicandwineradio.com
He's one of Manila's hardest working DJs, and I'll be joining him at the Spirits Library this Friday night, March 14 for a live DJ set.Mike and I belong to Gotsoul, a global community of DJs passionate about spreading the positive, healing powers of Deep House music--a style of dance music known for its organic sound that features natural instruments, jazzy chords, at times soulful vocals, and beats more on the downtempo side of the spectrum.  Founded by friend of show Jojo Flores, the multi-awarded DJ based in Montreal, Canada, Gotsoul has ambassadors in major cities all over the world, hardworking DJs like Mike who play these therapeutic grooves at nightspots regularly every week.Wherever Mike plays, you can expect him to serve up these fresh, tasty beats every single time.  He plays at pretty much every cool bar or club in town you can think of.  He's DJ'd alongside the likes of Miguel Migs, Sandy Rivera, Victor Simonelli, and Jojo Flores, just to name a few. We're delighted to have Mike Reefer guest on the show this week, and if you happen to be in Manila, catch our live performance on Friday night!Be sure to follow him at https://www.instagram.com/mikereefer/https://www.facebook.com/MikeReeferOfficial/https://soundcloud.com/mikereefsmenn2018Elianwww.musicandwineradio.com
It turns out, if you build it, they'll come!  This was the 2nd episode at Music & Wine at our friends Jade and Sarada's place Green Bar in Legaspi Village and, since my co-pilot Mark couldn't join me on the decks, I got to pull off another 7-hour set all on my own... and boy my legs are still sore from all the dancing! Thank goodness I got to record the first part of the evening, that we're playing for you good folks today on the podcast.  Look out for deep house and chill afro beats in this 2-hour opening set.  Enjoy!Elianwww.musicandwineradio.com
So the DJ's DJ Kevin Ruiz gets married to the love of his life Irene Reyes.  For those in our international audience, he is the one who gets some of the credit for bringing New York underground house music from his place of birth, New Jersey, to the Philippines at the tender age of 17, with consequential residencies at clubs like ABG's, 78Orange, Government, Imperial Ice Bar, and others.Who can forget his marathon sets at "Orange" circa 2002 on Saturday nights until 7:30am playing tracks like "Rapture" and "Dark Beat" to a packed dancefloor? I certainly can't.The number of DJs in attendance at this wedding is a testament to this humble man's body of work and the lives he's touched, both personally and professionally, over the last 25+ years.  Spotted in the crowd were Wendell Garcia, Benjo Marquez, Tony Pavia, Sanya Smith, Ornusa Cadness, and Mark Morales.Since this is a exceptional wedding, Inés and I teamed up to put together an extra special set for the couple, one we worked "sleepless nights" to research and compile, taking it on the road to test aspects of it on various audiences over the last few months.  And here's the final product!  Never have we been so proud to be the Principal Sponsors at a wedding!  Wishing Kevin and Irene a wonderful life together, as we continue to witness this unique love story unfold.Elian & Inéswww.musicandwineradio.com
Welcome 2025!  The year can't start without a good jazz set.  Let's go!
"It was one of those nights when it happened, that thing happened, that magic happened... and it was captured on tape.  But it happened, that night." - JazzanovaWe brought "the band" back together for a night at our friends Jade and Sarada's place Green Bar.  Elian & Markus on the decks, Mackey "Mr Marcus" on percussion, Inés working the room, just like the old days.   Looking forward to the next one!facebook.com/musicandwineradiowww.musicandwineradio.com
Now we're going back, way back to the days of Sanctuary, Green Planet, Ice Vodka and Temple. Ready to get your dance on?
Another Deep House music throwback!  Enjoy :)
It's Throwback Thursday!  Here's a classic mix from the Paseo Uno LOUNGE days, the bi-weekly pool-side party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Manila.  Crank it up!
Modern jazz beats from France, the UK, Japan, Poland, and, of course, the birthplace of jazz the good ol' US of A.www.musicandwineradio.com
A fresh batch of goodness we cooked up for the season!  Hope you’re having a great one this year, wherever you are :)Elian & Inés
A loungey set for an early Saturday night, or a Sunday afternoon that finds that good groove.
